The Haunted Mansion turns 40 this year!

I have to post this because it is just too cool. Celebrate the Haunted Mansion’s 40th anniversary with a little video:

Sleeping Beauty Event

onceuponadream

The Cartoon Art Museum (located at 655 Mission Street in San Francisco) proudly presents Once Upon a Dream: The Art of Sleeping Beauty, celebrating 50 years since the original release of the classic animated feature from Walt Disney Studios.

In addition, the Cartoon Art Museum will host a reception celebrating the beloved Disney film on August 15, 2009, from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Special guest Ron Dias will be present to discuss his career as an animation artist and illustrator, with a special focus on his role in the creation of the Walt Disney classic Sleeping Beauty.

This reception is free and open to the public. For more information please visit www.cartoonart.org For my local Imp fans this sounds like a fun event!

Guest Comic

I drew up a little guest comic for my friend Scott who is on vacation this week. It is showcased today on his webcomic called: HellHasFoundMe. It made me chuckle if I do say so myself.

Doing a guest comic is challenging since the artist has to draw another artist’s characters in your own style. Of course the subject matter of the gag should be in concert with the characters and their comic theme. All and all, a great exercise for a comic artist :)

HellHasFoundMe is a gamer theme comic but so much more. His comic is more of an ongoing series of character driven storylines interpersed with slice of life type of humor. I enjoy Scott’s skill at pen and ink hatch marks and his excellent freeform style. So, move your little mouse cursers over to Scott’s url, click over to his webcomic HellHasFoundMe, and check it out.

Share the source of your Creativity..

I have to share this video with my readers who are the creative types. I found this talk on www.webcomics.com and it was so good I have to post it here to spread the word. Elizabeth Gilbert talks about the source of creativity and how it may not all be your fault. She expresses her belief that those who unduly suffer from their own creativity can separate themselves from their creative outlet and not suffer from the effects of trying to complete projects and ‘outdo’ their last piece of work. Whether you are a writer, an artist, or something else, watch this talk and rethink your relationship with your creativity.
