200 Strips and Counting!

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Imp celebrates 200 strips today!

I can’t believe I have created 200 strips already but my push to finish the beginning story of Imp bumped up the count so close to 200 that it just happened this week!

firstimpI found this sketch I did years ago when I first thought of Imp as a comic character. The sketch was drawn on a piece of junk mail at my Aunt’s house. Remember artists…keep those old sketches! It is fun to look back at how your characters and your art progresses over time. See how far Imp has come! I never thought I would have 200 comics. It doesn’t seem like a lot now!

Now you are probably wondering what the devil happened to Imp falling through the living room floor…well you will find out in the next few strips next week. Until then…happy webcomic reading.

webcomicsshirt
Earth Day is coming up and to get into the spirit (even though every day should be Earth Day) I made this humorous little shirt logo. I have nothing against print comics (after all that is how I feel in love with comic strips to begin with) but as we rethink our role in the balance of life and reevaluate our presence on this delicate blue planet, we should consider the environment before doing any activity (including printing anything on paper). Our resources will become scarcer as time continues and each action we take will have greater meaning than the last.

The reading webcomics t-shirt is available in organic, american grown cotton (see options at Imp’s store) and comes in a variety of sizes and styles. The organic options are provided in the spirit of the environmental message so wear them proudly! Make Drew proud!

Mickey Cow!

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Looks like Disney was the inspiration for animal coloring these days!

mickeycow1

I found this cow in a field and low and behold the usual spotted markings of a dairy cow were there but looking more closely…do they resemble the head shape of a particular mouse we all know and love??!! Could it be that Mickey Mouse christened this cow with his special emblem? He would be so lucky. So, I whipped out my iPhone and snapped a picture of the lucky cow so all could see his special black markings that remind me of the Mouse. What’s next…a donald the duck dog?

The Bag vs. The Bay

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

To continue the spirit of Earth Day (April 22, 2009) I have added this blog addition about plastic bags. Why are plastic bags bad for the bay? Well as Imp has observed plastic bags are hazardous to devils! Or ANY critter for that matter. Not to mention polluting our waterways. In fact, approximately one million plastic bags pollute San Francisco Bay each year. Trash in the Bay flows into the ocean to join the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a floating island of trash estimated at twice the size of Texas where plastic particles are more abundant than plankton.

Did you know?
Up to 90% of floating debris is plastic, which never biodegrades.
Plastic trash has entangled, suffocated, or poisoned at least 267 known animal species worldwide.
A study found an average of three pieces of trash along every foot of streams leading to San Francisco Bay – half of which is plastic.
1.37 million plastic bags were removed from coastal areas worldwide on just one day.

What can you do to stop the addition to plastic bags???
For starters…go to this the Save the Bay campaign website called The Bag vs. The Bay and learn about ways you can help your community to stop using plastic bags. Watch their video about plastic in the oceans (posted above). It is very well done and gets the message across in a creative way.

Star Trek 2009

star-trek

If you haven’t already seen the new Star Trek film I highly recommend it. For many years we have not had a new Star Trek film and finally, after a long and patient wait, we have, not only a fine film that earns the title of Roddenberry’s work, but one that is fully entertaining and wonderful in every way. I was very pleased and, I admit, completely overwhelmed with emotion at the traditional rebirth of the classic Trek characters as well as stunned at the special effects and brilliant story of the beginnings of the Enterprise crew.

Don’t worry…I am not going to include any spoilers into this brief review of the new Star Trek film. All l I have to say is…don’t miss this film in the theaters…even if you are not a big Trekker…just go out and see this movie. It is well worth your time and it will entertain you to the fullest.
Enjoy…and live long and prosper.

Celebrate Everything

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

As you can see, Imp is on vacation this week riding rides at an amusement park. Though for artistic propriety I cannot convey Disney images in the comic…Imp is indeed in Disneyland as I was this past weekend. The Mr. and I took a little trip to the happiest place on earth and had a wonderful time…celebrating…well everything according to Disneyland’s theme. Birthdays, anniversaries, first visits to the park…are all celebrated in Disneyland this year.

I must say that Disneyland loses none of the magic and sparkle of fun and excitement after visiting it year after year as a child or as an adult. There is something for everyone of every age when going to see the Mouse. New and fantastical additions are being added to the park every year and there are some BIG plans for CA Adventure in the next few years. I am not going to give anything away in the blog. You will have to just go to the park and see it for yourself.

SO, if you haven’t had a chance to visit the park recently…I highly recommend a trip. Imp is already having the time of his life so…stay tuned this week (and maybe next week if I feel a surge of inspiration) for more impish fun in the happiest place on earth.

Imp T-Shirt Contest!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

I’m in the process of designing new Imp shirts and I thought it would be fun to have a contest with Imp fans. This is your chance to be part of the creative process!

So, here is what you do: create an Imp shirt design that includes a description of the image and/or words in your design. You can use as many of the Imp characters as you like and be as descriptive as possible so I can understand your creative idea. If you like you can send me a sketch of your design.

shirt_front

How do you submit your design?
You submit your design by email (use the email button at the top of Imp’s home page or email me directly at: ewportfolio@yahoo.com). Put “Imp Contest” in the title of your email. Email me your design including a description of the image and any words that accompany your design. The design is completely up to you! It could be Imp chasing birds, Imp terrorizing Terran, Drew and Imp together, Imp playing video games….be as creative as you like!

When is the design due?
All t-shirt submissions are due June 30, 2009.

What do you WIN?
The winner will receive a free t-shirt that they helped create!

Once the winning design is picked, I will draw the image and have the design available on a t-shirt in the Imp store. The winner will have their very own t-shirt mailed to them that they helped create! So, have fun and email me those great t-shirt designs!

Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Ok…so, with all the frenzy online about social networking and how everyone is hooked with sharing photos, finding old buddies, and ‘adding’ themselves to the latest and greatest group…what is it going to be? Facebook? MySpace? Or Twitter? Or maybe all the above?

What is your choice venue for social networking for your personal life, your business life, or for both?

Now I hear MySpace is on its way out. Personally, I tried MySpace and I have found it buggy and the programming extremely clunky to use. I gave up with it but I know some people who still use it as their main source for networking with friends. Music bands seem to use MySpace a lot…but if you are not into bands…then where do you go?

Facebook is definitely on the rise even more than before. Everyone I know is on Facebook including myself. I find the usability of Facebook generally easy and the interface to be attractive. Every agency seems to have a Facebook account…even random agencies like Safeway and the County Fair!? Do people really “add” Safeway as a friend???

Twitter is a mystery to me. I really haven’t spent any time figuring it out. Do people really care what I had for lunch yesterday or when I am pumping gas into my car? You tell me! It could be fun. I might want to do what my favorite artist or celebrity is doing in their day to day lives.

So, with all these options…which is the most popular? Which has the greatest ease of use? Unfortunately, I have less and less time to spend on the internet and was wondering which interface is the best to use for Imp to stay in contact with Fans.

I would love to hear what Imp Fans think so, comment on this blog or email me on which you would prefer to use to stay in contact with Imp beyond this website.

Thanks and I’ll twitter you…err…add you…or whatever!
